New Sotelec Studio for photo shops

Your photo shop, on a single screen

Photo prints, ID photos, greeting cards, photo booth, calendars and photo books in one Windows program. Your customer picks the photos, you adjust them in seconds and the dye-sublimation printer does the rest.

  • Designed for touchscreens
  • Direct printing
  • Modular licensing
The real Sotelec Studio home screen with sample photos and the modules, with three jobs made in the program in front: a sheet of ID photos, a birthday card and a photo booth strip

How it works

From USB stick to print in three steps

Every module follows the same path, so what you learn in one works in all the others.

  1. Pick the photos

Studio spots the USB stick as soon as it is plugged in. You can also open any folder or your favourite folders.

  2. Adjust

Cropping, brightness, filters, background, templates and text, with large buttons made for fingers.

  3. Print

The order goes straight to the dye-sublimation printer, in the size and finish you chose.

Studio recording: plug in a drive and it appears in the tree by itself; open its folders and pick the photos.

The file explorer, built into Studio

The home screen already shows all your drives and folders: the hard disk, the customer’s USB stick or camera card and your favourite folders, with photo thumbnails.

  • Plug in the USB stick and it appears in the tree, without opening Windows Explorer.
  • No copying first: pick the photos where they are and go straight to the module.
  • Favourite folders and the last folder used, one tap away.
  • JPG, PNG, BMP, TIFF and GIF.

Modules

Six modules, one program

Everything you see in the videos is the real Sotelec Studio screen. The photos are sample illustrations.

Photo prints

Prints in every size, in a couple of taps

Select the photos, choose the size and finish, and add copies to all of them at once. Each thumbnail shows the crop for the chosen size and the order summary updates instantly.

  • All your printer’s sizes: standard, square, strips, panoramas and sheets.
  • Glossy or matte finish and a price per product, or no prices on show.
  • Image editor: crop, brightness, contrast, saturation, colour balance and seven filters. The original photo is never touched.
  • 5x15 strips are laid out automatically, two to a sheet.
  • Select
  • Size and finish
  • Retouch
  • Print
Studio recording: three photos, 10x15 glossy and 13x18 matte prints, more light and the ‘Warm’ filter in the image editor.

ID photos

Professional retouching and each country’s sheet, without leaving the program

Remove the background, fix the lighting, clone out a blemish and pick the country template: Studio lays the photos out on the sheet at the official size, with cut marks.

  • Built-in ID card, passport and visa templates for 41 countries, with favourites and recents.
  • On-screen biometric guide for framing; it does not appear on the print.
  • ‘Move all at once’: crop and zoom every copy together or, when it is off, just one.
  • Photo background per copy: white, grey, blue, red… on the same sheet.
  • Remove the background
  • Retouch
  • Pick the country
  • Print the sheet
Studio removing the background (‘Soft’ tolerance), raising the brightness and cloning out a mark on the chin; then the country sheet with the biometric guide.
Before and after: an illustrated portrait with a coloured background and a mark on the chin; after, with the background removed, more light and no mark

ID photo retouching tools

  • Remove background: detected from the top corners, with Soft, Balanced or Strong tolerance, and ‘Restore original’.
  • Clone: set the source and paint over the blemish or detail.
  • Blur, with brush size and strength, and ‘Undo’.
  • Lighting and tone: brightness, contrast and saturation.
  • RGB colour balance, channel by channel.
  • Zoom up to 8x, with panning for close-up retouching.
Two different photos on the same sheet: with ‘Move all at once’ they are all framed together; when it is off, only the copy you touch.
ID photo sheet ready to print with four copies of the same illustrated portrait, each on a different background: white, grey, red and blue
One template with a different background for each copy, exactly as it goes to print. How to set it up: see Editors.

Greeting cards

Greeting cards with your customer’s photos

Themed templates: birthdays, weddings, love, Christmas… Tap a slot and a photo, frame it and change the text before printing.

  • Photo slots in 11 shapes: heart, star, circle, hexagon… with an optional frame.
  • Editable text: font, size, colour, bold, italic and rotation.
  • ‘Fill’ places all the photos in one go and warns you if a slot is left empty.
  • New collections come in packs that import in moments.
  • Choose a template
  • Add the photos
  • Change the text
  • Print
The real Greeting cards screen: the ‘Confeti’ template, photos in the heart and the circle, framing, the text ‘¡Feliz cumple, Lucía!’ (Happy birthday, Lucía!) and two copies.

Calendars

Desk calendars with your customer’s photos

A ring-bound desk calendar: cover and twelve months on 10x15 sheets. The customer chooses the starting month, fills every month with their photos in one go and adds their special dates.

  • Cover and twelve months on 10x15 sheets, plus a preview of the calendar on its desk stand.
  • Starts in whichever month the customer chooses.
  • ‘Fill’ places all the photos at once; they can also be dragged onto each month.
  • The customer’s special dates, on their own calendar.
  • Your own designs with the calendar editor.

  • Print
The real Calendars screen: the desk model, ‘Fill’ with the customer’s photos and the months one by one.

Photo book

Photo books that leaf through like the real thing

Themed albums you flip through on screen just like a real book. ‘Fill the book’ places the photos; each page takes 1 to 6 photos, text and a different layout variation, with a choice of cover.

  • Themed books, with a choice of cover colour.
  • ‘Fill the book’ places all the photos at once, in the order they were picked.
  • 1 to 6 photos per page, with text, and ‘Variation’ to change the layout.

  • Your own designs with the photo book editor.
  • Choose the theme
  • Fill the book
  • Adjust the pages
  • Print
The real Photo book screen: choosing the theme, ‘Fill the book’ and turning the pages.

Photo booth

A photo booth for weddings, communions and events

Create the event, choose its templates and launch the guest screen. Each event keeps its own photos, counters and settings. It works with a webcam, an HDMI capture card or your Canon EOS camera over USB.

What your guests see

  1. Tap to startA start screen with the event’s title, colour and image, or the live camera in the background.
  2. Pick your design4-photo strip, single photo, grid, boomerang or guest book.
  3. Countdown and photos‘Photo 1 of 4’, with the preview cropped to the shape of the slot, voice prompts and on-screen messages.
  4. Review with filtersOriginal, black and white, sepia, vintage, lomo or retro.
  5. Retake just one photoSomeone blinked in the 3rd? Retake only that one and keep the rest.
  6. Printing and QR codeThe final screen follows the print and shows a QR code to take the photos home on a phone.
  7. Or from their phone BetaWith a QR code, guests run the session with their own phone’s camera.
The real guest screen: choosing a design, a countdown with a different pose in each photo, review, black and white filter and QR code.

In beta

The photo booth web app on the guest’s phone (in beta).
Video guest book. A real montage made by Studio: the ‘Boda’ (Wedding) cover, guests’ messages and a closing screen.
‘Retake a photo’: tap the 3rd, retake just that one with another pose and the strip updates.

Retake just one photo

On the review screen, ‘Retake a photo’ shows the photos from the session: the guest taps the one they don’t like, the countdown runs again for that photo only and the strip is put back together with the others exactly as they were. It is switched on per event with ‘Allow retaking a single photo’.

The photo booth’s real slideshow, with photos from the event.

Slideshow on a second screen

A carousel of the event’s photos on a second screen or the venue’s TV while guests take their pictures. New ones appear instantly with a ‘New!’ badge.

  • ‘Elegant frame’, ‘Polaroids on the table’ and ‘Mosaic with highlight’ styles.
  • With template, originals, GIFs and boomerangs; seconds per photo.
  • Event name and date, plus the QR code for each photo or for the phone session.

Set it up your way

Creating an event in Studio: start screen, capture, effects, guest book and output.
  • Event: name, date and start screen with title, subtitle, button, colours and image.
  • Templates: built-in strip, 10x15 and grid, or your own from the editor, with the event’s name and date.
  • Cameras: webcam, HDMI capture card or Canon EOS camera (DSLR or mirrorless) over USB, tested with the EOS 2000D and EOS 550D, which takes the photo with its own focus and flash; with mirroring and rotation.

  • Voices and messages: beeps, Windows voice or voice packs, and on-screen text.
  • Effects: event filter, guests choose their own filter, boomerang and a GIF of every session.
  • Output: print every session, copies per session, a copy limit for the whole event, save both the original photos and the ones composed with the template, and copy each photo to another folder.
  • Export to ZIP: the whole event folder (photos, GIFs and guest book) in one .zip, to save on a USB stick and hand to the client.
  • Sharing: QR code to download, phone session (beta) and slideshow on a second screen.
  • Guest book: message length, montage when the event closes and six cover styles.
  • Kiosk: screen and orientation, touch keyboard and PIN-protected exit.

Template editors

Create your own templates. No designer needed.

Greeting cards, ID photos, photo booth, calendars and photo book each come with an editor, and they all work the same way. Tap an element and it appears on the paper, in real millimetres, ready to move and change.

Real recording of the editor: coloured background, heart-shaped slot, round photo, handwritten-style text and a preview with sample photos.

Why Studio

Made for the shop counter

Fast and simple

Just a few taps from photo to print. Customers get it straight away and you serve them sooner.

Touch and portrait

Large, finger-friendly buttons. The home screen and Photo prints adapt to portrait monitors, and the photo booth runs as a full-screen kiosk.

Direct printing

Every order goes to the dye-sublimation printer with its size, finish and colour profile, with no steps in between.

Modular licensing

Pay for what you use. Modules you don’t have stay visible in Settings, ready to add whenever you like.

Orders and statistics

Every order is numbered and logged, with statistics to see how the shop is doing.

Spanish and English

The application is available in Spanish and English, with a dark or light theme.

Printers integrated through their SDK

Studio talks to each printer through the manufacturer’s SDK, over a direct USB connection and with its own queue. That way it gets the most out of each model’s formats and cuts, sets the finish for every job and shows the printer’s status as it happens.

  • 5x15 strips cut from a 10x15, and two 10x15s on one 15x20 sheet.
  • 15x36 and 15x52 panoramas on the Citizen CX-02 and CX-02W.
  • Variable cut (10x5, 10x7.5) on the Citizen CZ-01.
  • Glossy or matte for each job, depending on the model.
  • Printer errors and alerts (paper, ribbon, door…) and an ICC colour profile for each model.
  • Power cut? It resumes the order and prints only what was missing.
